Suva, Fiji – Outsource Fiji is pleased to announce its partnership with the Pacific Islands Forum (PIF) as a development partner for the Women in Tech event, which was held today, at the prestigious Grand Pacific Hotel in Suva. Outsource Fiji Executive Director, Ms Sagufta Janif stated “The Women in Tech event aims to address the gender disparities faced by women in Fiji’s tech space by providing a platform for networking, mentorship, and knowledge sharing. With the support and sponsorship from PIF, Outsource Fiji is able to extend its reach and involve women entrepreneurs not only in Fiji, but also from the broader Pacific region.” Pacific Island Forum Director Policy Joel Nilon stated “This partnership has enabled PIF to involve women entrepreneurs with similar goals, particularly those in the technology sector, from the broader region, including Samoa and PNG, in this significant event. Their participation not only adds to Fiji’s best practices but also offers valuable lessons, facilitates knowledge sharing, and fosters the exchange of ideas. Importantly, it highlights that the entire region, including Fiji, stands to benefit from this collaborative engagement.” “The Women in Tech event sheds light on the crucial role of technology and innovation in the development of the Pacific Islands. As one of the most isolated regions globally, the Pacific Islands can benefit greatly from advancements in technology and innovation, which can reduce trade costs, narrow distances, and promote sustainable and inclusive growth.” He added.

This event aims to showcase the potential for women in Fiji and the Pacific to leverage technology and innovation, ultimately contributing to job creation and economic growth. The Pacific Islands Forum Secretariat is dedicated to addressing cross-cutting issues such as women’s economic empowerment and gender equality, which strongly aligns with the thematic areas of the 2050 Strategy – People-Centered Development, Resources and Economic Development, and Technology and Connectivity. The goals and initiatives of PIF are reflected in the objectives of the Women in Tech event, making this partnership an ideal collaboration. The event featured dynamic panel discussions on women’s leadership in tech, followed by skill-enhancing workshops and round table sessions for aspiring women. Participants included high school and university students, SMEs, corporate, and women from diverse sectors, created a vibrant tapestry of collaboration. Outsource Fiji is excited about this partnership with PIF and is confident that this collaboration will pave the way for greater gender equality and economic empowerment for women in Fiji’s tech industry.
