24 April 2026 | Press ReleaseSuva, Fiji – Outsource Fiji has officially launched its Tertiary Engagement Programme, a strategic initiative aimed at strengthening the connection between tertiary education and employment opportunities within Fiji’s expanding outsourcing sector.

The launch was held at the University of Fiji Saweni Campus in Lautoka and brought together industry representatives, academic leaders, and students. The programme is designed to improve awareness of career opportunities in the outsourcing industry, equip students with relevant skills, and foster closer collaboration between educational institutions and the private sector.
Speaking at the event, Josefa Wivou said the initiative reflects a broader effort to align education outcomes with industry needs.
“This initiative reflects our strong commitment to future-proofing Fiji’s workforce. By connecting students with real industry opportunities, we are not only empowering our young people but also strengthening the foundation of a sustainable and resilient outsourcing sector in Fiji,” Mr Wivou said.
He noted that the outsourcing sector is experiencing steady growth and increasing global demand, which requires a workforce that is adaptable and prepared for the workplace.
“As an industry, we are experiencing significant growth and increasing global demand. However, this progress must be supported by a workforce that is skilled, adaptable, and ready to contribute from day one. The Tertiary Engagement Programme has been designed to bridge this gap by introducing students to the realities of the outsourcing environment early in their academic journey,” he said.
Mr Wivou added that collaboration between industry and tertiary institutions is critical to ensuring long-term workforce development and national growth.
“The Tertiary Engagement Programme is not a one-off initiative. It is part of a broader, long-term strategy aimed at building a sustainable talent pipeline, strengthening industry capacity, and positioning Fiji as a leading outsourcing destination in the region and beyond.”
The programme featured industry-led presentations, interactive sessions, and networking opportunities, allowing students to gain insights into career pathways in areas such as customer experience, IT services, back-office operations, and knowledge process outsourcing. Member organisations of Outsource Fiji also participated through booth displays, providing students with direct engagement opportunities.
The University of Fiji Registrar Ms Nathasha Mudaliar welcomed the initiative, highlighting its relevance to student development and employability.
“The University of Fiji is honoured to collaborate with Outsource Fiji on the launch of this important initiative. The Tertiary Engagement Programme provides our students with valuable exposure to industry, enabling them to better understand workplace expectations and emerging career pathways within the outsourcing sector,” Ms Mudaliar said.
She added that closer collaboration with industry partners is essential in preparing graduates for the workforce.
“Working closely with industry is essential in today’s environment. Programmes such as this allow students to interact directly with employers, gain practical insights, and develop both technical and interpersonal skills. We will continue to support partnerships that enhance employment outcomes and ensure our graduates are ready to contribute effectively.”
Fiji’s outsourcing sector currently employs over 9,500 employees and aims to increase this number to 15,000 by 2030. The sector continues to expand, driven by global demand for services including customer experience, information technology support, and back-office operations, and remains a key contributor to employment and economic growth in the country.
